My 5 Favorite Books

These are my five most favorite books, but I love them all so much I can’t possibly put them in any order.

The first book I want to talk about is On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King. My mother and I were both avid King readers when I was a teenager and maybe even younger. I’ve always thought I would be a writer one day too so this book was a perfect choice for me when it came out. I’ve since owned several copies at different times in my life and have read the full book or parts of it more times than I can count.

This is the book that makes me love writing and renews my passion for it each time I read it, without fail. It also helps to renew my love and admiration for Stephen King. Every time I feel the desire to write, but can’t find the drive to actually do so, this is the book I pick up. I am currently in the middle of a reread and am enjoying my first time reading it while annotating.

The second book has been a favorite since college. I’ve read it at least half a dozen times in the 12 years or so since I discovered it. This book is She’s Come Undone by Wally Lamb. I related to Dolores in more ways than I care to think about and I relate to her more and in different ways with each reread.

This is another book I am currently rereading and am annotating for the first time.

The third book, The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee is the newest favorite. I read it for the first time last November and requested a copy for my birthday in February. I am reading it again though not annotating as yet. This book is such fun! I love each character and the romance is sad and delightful. I can not wait for the sequel to come out following the adventures of Monty’s sister.

The fourth book is The Giver by Lois Lowry. This is a book I read repeatedly as a child. I always loved it, but felt a little cheated on the ending. Imagine my surprise and delight when I found out last year that it was a quartet. I quickly read every book in the series and got my husband to read them as well. I loved them all so much. I was glad to be able to see more of the world and find out more of Jonas’ story. The first book was still my favorite.

I have since begun a quest to read every book published by Lois Lowry and can’t say that I’m enjoying any of the others nearly as much as I enjoyed this series.

The final book to talk about today is Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.  I read this book for the first time when it came out and I love it. I read it again last November and still loved it. I them immediately started Gemina and promptly DNFed it. I hadn’t read or watched anything about it beforehand and had no idea that I was going to be involved with an all new set of characters. I was not about that. Give me Kady and Ezra and AIDAN!

Luckily for me, I decided to give the series another chance. I ordered the full set when Obsidio was coming out. I devoured them all in a just a few weeks and gave each of the three books 5 stars.

This whole series is a ride and I love every minute of it.

These are the five books I have loved the most throughout my life. Do any of these make your list of favorite books too?
