In July I tried a TBR. I don’t usually do those because they don’t usually go well for me. This month didn’t go too badly though.
Of the 8 books on my TBR I finished reading or DNFed 6 of them and also finished two books that was not on my TBR. And I started reading one other book from my TBR and two other books not on my TBR.
The books I finished were:
- Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid ✰4✰
- Beartown by Fredrik Backman ✰5✰
- Deep Sea Disaster by Davy Ocean ✰3✰
- Grief Day by Day by Jan Warner ✰5✰
- Where’d You Go Bernadette? by Maria Semple ✰3✰
- Grief is the Thing with Feathers by Max Porter ✰4✰
I also DNFed two books. Fingertip of the Tongue by Sarah Rice. I didn’t make it very far in to this one, but I did not get along with the writing style and sent it to the donation box.
And Blogging: How to Sell Your Sould For a Million Dollar Blog by Efron Hirsch. I apparently grabbed the wrong book from my shelf. But as for this book, these are not really the goals I have for my blog and I don’t intend to put that much effort in to it. I would like my blog to remain fun.
The book from my TBR that I am currently in the middle of is From Scratch by Tembi Locke. I am about 75 pages in to this book and it’s a hard read. It’s so cute and sweet, the love story reminds me so much of my Jason and I. Unfortunately the dying of cancer and becoming a young widowed single parent to a little girl also reminds me of my life and while it’s a nice change to be crying about someone else for a few pages at a time it’s hitting awfully close to home. I am looking forward to seeing how she survives her horrible loss.
I am also in the middle of Backyard Witch: Sadie’s Story by Christine Heppermann. This is a middle grade book that is short and cute and silly. I was in the middle of two books dealing with grief at the same time and needed to add something really light in to the mix. This is working out perfectly.
The final book I’m in the middle of is I Find You in the Darkness by Alfa Holden. This book I will be reading for a while. I’m reading just a page or two at a time and am coloring and journaling my way through it. It’s a book of poetry. The back says the poems are about love, loss, and healing. I am reading a poem, underlining what means something to me, responding to those thoughts with some of my own, coloring in the drawings that are included, and writing small notes to my Jason where ever else there is free space on the pages. It has turned in to part of my grief work and I’m getting more out of it than traditional journal writing has done for me thus far in my journey.
All in all a great reading month. I did pretty well with my TBR, just one book I didn’t get to at all. I averaged about 50 pages a day plus whatever I read in my ebook. I haven’t found a good way to track pages in my ebook. I am very happy with how the month went reading wise and I plan to have a new TBR for August. It should be up on Saturday.
