Flip the Page Book Challenge

This has been going all over Youtube and it looks like so much fun I had to try. JessietheReader created this challenge where you generate random numbers in some way to use your books to make a fictional story, MASH style. There are 19 prompts. I’ll include the prompts first, then the books I used, and finally my completed new life story. This was fun I hope you’ll give it a try.

1. You’re getting a new identity! Let the coordinates guide you to a book, flip to the page you were given, and the first name you see is now your new name!

2. It’s time to get up and move the heck out of your town! The location of the book your coordinates lead you to will be where you’re moving.

3. You’re all settled into your new home, but you’ve gotta get a job to get that cash money flow goin. Create a job using the first object you find with the coordinates and page number.

4. You’ve started your job and you’ve started developing feelings for a coworker. Find the book using your coordinates, flip the page to the page number you were given, and the first character you come across will be the character you’re falling for.

5. Using the coordinates & the page number, the first piece of dialogue you come across will be the first thing you say to your potential lover.

6. That line really got to them, next thing you know you’re in love! You’re going to propose, but buying a wedding ring is too expensive. Using the coordinates & flipping the page to the page number you were given, the first object you come across will be what you propose with.

7. We’ve arrived at your wedding! Find the book using your coordinates, flip the page to the page number you were given, and the first piece of dialogue you find will be the first line in your vows.

8. It’s honey moon time! Wherever the book’s location that your coordinates lead you to will be the destination for your lovers retreat!

9. Things got a little cray on the honeymoon and now you’re expecting a baby! With the next coordinates find your next book and flip the page to the page number you were given. The first name you find will be the name of your first born child!

10. We’re time jumping 5 years & your child is desperately begging for a pet! Find the book using your coordinates, flip the page to the page number you were given, & the first creature you come across will be your pet! If you don’t find a creature, then the first object you find will have to be used as a pet replacement.

11. Your child is going to school! Find the book using your coordinates, flip the page to the page number you were given, using words on that page create the name of their school.

Now for my story:

Hello, my name is Ian and I live in Tangier. I work as a nanny. I’m worried I’m falling in love with Harlan Ellison, a fellow nanny, but that is a big no no. I finally worked up the nerve to talk to him today, but all I managed to say is “What do those mean?” Even I don’t know what I was trying to ask him about.

Somehow it worked though because we’re in love now and I’m going to propose! I can’t afford a ring on my nanny salary so I’m going to offer him a lamp and hope he says yes.

He said yes! I’m planning to begin my vows this way “Now, we’ve explored methods of developing patience and tolerance and letting go of anger and hatred, methods such as using reasoning to analyze the situation, adopting a wider perspective, and looking at other angles of the situation.” I think that will really get to my new husband. We rush off to London as soon as the ceremony is complete.

We’re going to be daddies! We’re adopting a baby boy. His name will be Mr. Saveloy, which is odd because that isn’t our last name.

Now Mr. Saveloy is five and wants a pet desperately. Harlan can’t tell him no so we ended up with a deer. Living in the house! What am I going to do with these boys?

Of course I ended up with being the deer’s fulltime caregiver. Mr Saveloy is off to school at Effectively Awake. One of those silly schools where they teach him how to breath slowly and think of nature. I’m sure he’ll fit right in.

With Mr Saveloy off at school and Harlan at work, I’m suddenly home too often on my own, except for the deer or course. I decide to start a youtube channel to keep myself busy. It is about stringing beads. I’ll call it Threadbare Shadows, though I can’t say why. I start every video by saying “There is no way around sorrow of the depth, this breadth.” Perhaps I string beads while I talk of great sadness.

My channel is a huge hit and I’ve been asked to write a book. I decide on the title Don’t be so Dramatic. My life simply screams drama. The opening line to my masterpiece will be ” Our bodies are water, too, he wrote in his pad.

Oh no! I’m being stalked. I’m not being dramatic this time I swear. The person planning to kill me is named Kitty. I think she’ll be here soon and there is nothing I can to stop her.

Drat! She murders me with a sofa. She drops it from up high, like an anvil in a cartoon, and I am crushed. It would be hysterical if only I didn’t leave a widower and a half way orphaned child behind.

On my tombstone it simply says “Just…Why was I not enough?” I don’t know what that means. Perhaps Harlan had me killed.

The end.
